"When should I start my gardening?" That's the all-wanted question lately according to Our Farm Greenhouses operations manager Shea Doherty. Should people be holding off this year?

"Last week, definitely hold off," says Doherty. "Now, for us, we've planted our onions, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower and even cold crop peas, carrots -- anything that's seed crop and can handle cold. Tomatoes, please hold off!"

Doherty says it's still too cold for tomatoes at this point.

"We're looking at plus 5 temperatures, they're saying, for the long-range, which is too cold for tomatoes," continues Doherty. "I would like it around plus eight above for planting, and it's perfect then for that. Usually, I don't plant my tomatoes till June 10th, anyway, unless you've got nice cozy coats and are able to cover them really well. That's the perfect time -- around June 10th to plant."

He adds flowers near the houses are okay and it's planting time for them.

"It's time to get their little roots starting to show, your hands in the dirt, and smelling the fresh air," adds Doherty.
