The Plumas Pirates are gearing up for their start to the playoffs.

Round one has already finished, but the Pirates finished second overall in the standings, granting them a first-round bye. Team manager Tom Yandeau says he is very pleased with how his team performed during the regular season.

"For us, it was really good," says Yandeau. "We weren't expecting to be this high up in the standings. We were hoping to be around .500 or a little bit better. So, the way the kids were playing is a bonus for sure."

With their first-round bye, the Pirates have not played a game since July 8th. Yandeau outlines how that could affect the team.

"Well it's good," says Yandeau. "It gives some of our pitchers a little bit of rest. On the other hand, too, we could be off for two and a half or three weeks. So, maybe the rust won't help us either."

The Plumas Pirates had a record of 11-4 in the regular season, with a run differential of +57.

The Pirates begin their second-round series against the Neepawa Cubs on Wednesday, July 24th. Game one will take place in Neepawa.

The winner of this best-of-three series will move on to the finals to take on the winner of the Carberry Royals and Portage Padres series.
