Have you received an automated phone call lately telling you that you're in violation of an unpaid tax bill and an arrest warrant is being issued? If yes, you're not alone.

RCMP in Manitoba fielded many calls with complaints of scam phone calls in the last while.

These calls have been automated with an aggressive tone identifying themselves as being with a government agency such as the Canada Revenue Agency or a Policing Organization. The automated portion of the call says the person is in violation of an offence, and an arrest warrant is being issued. It then asks for them to press (1) to speak with an officer.

These calls will ask you for personal information such as your Social Insurance Number.

RCMP reminds the public to never comply with any request from these types of calls as it will be a scam. Some of these calls even appear to be local.

If you receive a call like this, RCMP say to simply hang up, and If you can, block the number.
