Portage's mayor and deputy mayor are in line for salary increases, as of January 1st, 2007.

Councillor Dave Quinn says the City hired Whiteway and Associates to look at current salaries, and compare them to seven similar centres.

The finding was salaries here were below average, so the mayor and deputy-mayor get raises of roughly $2000.00, to just over $30,000.00 and $14,000.00, respectively.

Quinn notes the mayor previously earned $28,000.00, while the deputy-mayor received just under $12,000.00. Council salaries don't change from just under $12,000.00, but all will be raised 3.75 per cent in 2007.

Management salaries are also being brought into line with the average, and will be adjusted over time. Quinn says the idea is to retain good people.
