Volunteerism and social impact was the focus at the Austin and MacGregor MCC Thrift Shops Annual General Meeting.

Andy Bergen is the Chairman of the Board for the shops, and he reveals over 35 people came out to the AGM. During the meeting, the new Thrift Store Coordinator came out from Winnipeg to give a presentation about the significant social impact MCC has worldwide and locally in our region.

Bergen notes, it was very encouraging to hear what was said. Adding, it showcased how much the work they do there is helping people.

Concerning the shop's finances, Bergen outlines things are looking good. He attributes this to the many donations that came in from the communities. Every year the shops support local camps, and moving forward will be giving funds to the Manitoba Health Foundation and Cancer Care.

Bergen reveals volunteerism in the shop has been good, but, adds they could always use more. He shares, volunteering seems to improve self-worth.

"It Brings a smile to a lot of people faces," says Bergen. "It's very encouraging to see people step forward and give us their time."

Overall the two MCC Thrift Shops had a great 2018 and Bergen is looking forward to what this year has to offer if you'd like to volunteer head down to the shops!
