In SEMHL action, the Portage Islanders had a rough start to the season with at 2-1 loss to Morden. Islanders Coach and Forward, Andres Strome shares his thoughts on the home opener.

"We are disappointed we didn't get the win. I think we out played them for the better part of the game. Their goalie was outstanding. Our goalie was excellent as well. We just couldn't put them away in the first part of the game. We should have had four or five goals but we only got the one. They have a lot of fire power and they came back and got two quick goals in the third. We didn't have enough left."

Strome notes the team will focus on learning how they play as a team to have a positive outcome for their next came.

"We've just got to skate a little bit more together, get used to each other. This is our first game so not many of us have played together. Just getting used to playing real organized hockey again and work on some of the little things like the legs, get the leg backs and the hands. I think we'll be fine. We've got a good group of guys, lots of skill and lots of speed."

The Portage Islanders are back on the ice November 14th in Morden. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 PM.
