The Rotary Club of Portage la Prairie is inching closer to the completion of their duck pond rejuvenation project.

The club had members, as well as other volunteers, planting various flowers around the edges to add some colour to the pond. They began on June 9th and had wrapped up the planting the following day. Rotarian Cathie McFarlane says they still have a bit of work left to go before completion.

"We're going to change the retaining wall to something else," explains McFarlane. "We haven't quite decided on the design, but something that will fit in, not be too evasive, but also maintain the safety."

One of the most exciting things for the future of the duck pond is the number of bookings it's already received to be the location for events. Rotarian Sherri Palmer says they have multiple weddings booked for this summer.

flowers.

"It really struck me how many people just are you already using that for walking around having their lunch there or just sitting on the benches," explains Palmer. "We've had a community member come out and help us just because they saw a Facebook post. I think it's really one of the areas of the park that is getting just amazing use, and that's going to continue."

The club is currently working on the final phase of the duck pond project. They hope to finish it sometime this summer.
