There's going to be a new face in council chambers at the next Municipality of Norfolk-Treherne meeting. Ryan Gaultier was elected as Ward 1 councillor in this week's by-election. The election was necessary after Marcel Berard --A former RM of South Norfolk councillor-- retired, and moved outside the municipality's borders. Reeve Craig Spencer says he was glad to see a lot of interest in the by-election, noting five candidates were in the running.

"There were actually five candidates in the general election in 2014, so there seems to be a strong interest in this role and for the most part it's different individuals. It shows interest, and there's one of two reasons they're running; they're upset with things, or they're happy with things and see an opportunity for leadership."

He says Gaultier received strong support in the by-election's results, and looks forward to working with him over the next few years.

"He's bringing youthfulness, and experience as his father has been a long-time councillor in a neighbouring municipality. He's a farmer, and his wife is one of the pharmacists in Treherne itself. They have roots in the area, and I look forward to his views on things. As a member of the team, we just got younger."

Spencer congratulates all five of the candidates for their willingness to take on the position, adding he looks forward to the remaining three years in council's term.
