Manitoba RCMP are urging motorists to use extreme caution while travelling as poor road conditions and reduced visibility continue to create hazardous driving conditions across the region.

The Trans-Canada Highway between Portage la Prairie and Headingley remains closed following multiple collisions, including two multi-vehicle crashes west of Portage near Oakville that occurred around 11:20 a.m. The collisions involved traffic in both the eastbound and westbound lanes.

RCMP say at least five vehicles were involved in one of the crashes, including an RCMP vehicle.

Emergency responders, including RCMP and EMS crews, have been transporting individuals to hospital for assessment. Police say no serious injuries are believed to have occurred at this time.

Road conditions in the area were continuing to deteriorate as of the latest update. Motorists planning to travel on the highway are being encouraged to reconsider and delay travel until conditions improve.

RCMP remain on scene and are working alongside local fire departments, ambulance services, and tow-truck operators to manage the situation and clear the roadway.
