Portage RCMP are asking for your help after several instances of theft and vandalism.

"Over the last month or so, we've had six different cases where vandals have broken into and stolen mail from Canada Post community mailboxes," says Sgt. Brian Brewer. "Some of them have been in the City of Portage and some in the RM of Portage."

He says anyone with information should contact RCMP as soon as possible.

"We're looking for information on these cases, as it's a very serious crime that involves people's mail and, in a lot of cases, they'll have identifying numbers and stuff, so it can lead to identity thefts," says Sgt. Brewer.

He says it is serious enough that there's actually a section in the Criminal Code that is specific to mail theft. It can lead to imprisonment for up to ten years.
