Customers of Primary Gas will be getting a break in their gas bills.

Centra Gas Manitoba made an application to the Public Utilities Board to decrease the current Primary Gas rate from $0.0910/m3 to $0.0863/m3. It all takes effect on February 1.

A spokesperson with PUB says Manitoba customers purchase Primary Gas from Centra on a cost-recovery basis without any markup. The new rate will decrease the bill for typical residential customers by about 1.8 per cent or $10 a year. The rates will be reviewed again on May 1.

They explain customers who have signed up for fixed-term price contracts with Centra or a private broker will not be affected by the rate change. The PUB is an impartial tribunal that sits at arm's length from the government and acts in the public interest.
