Beef and Forage seminars were held throughout the province this week with speakers coming from all over North America.

This was part of Manitoba Beef and Forage Week, as hosted by the Manitoba Beef Producers, the Manitoba Forage and Grassland Association, and the province of Manitoba.

Shawn Cabak is the Livestock Specialist for Manitoba Agriculture in Portage la Prairie and attended a seminar in Holland. He says one of the key topics included practical watering systems for cattle in summer and winter.

"Last year's dry conditions meant a lot of summer watering systems went dry, dugouts went dry, dugouts were low, and water quality was affected," said Cabak.

He says the seminar discussed what can be done to provide better water quality and volume on pasture so that livestock can perform better.
