The Portage Plains United Way received a boost from the Community Foundation of Portage and District.

United Way Executive Director Mandy Dubois gives the details of the donation, and explains what it will be used for.

"The Community Foundation of Portage has donated $3,500 to the Portage Plains United Way. Usually I'm always out fundraising for our fundraising campaign, but this money's actually going somewhere different. It's going to be going toward 8 training sessions for non-profit executive directors here in Portage la Prairie."

Dubois says it'll be used to help strengthen newly appointed executive directors' skills that can help with their position.

"Being a new executive director in Portage la Prairie, I have a lot of the skills needed to do the job, but I don't have the tools or the hardcore skills. So I came to the CFPD to ask for a grant to host training for the non-profit organizations in Portage to allow their executive directors to get the tools they need to do the best job they can possibly do."

Dubois adds while they're always busy fundraising for the campaign at this time of year, it's exciting to receive funding for the organization itself.
