The City of Portage la Prairie won an award for its urban beautification and showcased it during their council meeting.

City councillor Ryan Espey says all municipalities that are a part of the Manitoba Good Roads Association are entered into whatever class corresponds with their population. He notes the city won the Clarion Hotel & Suites - Brandon Shield award.

“When they make the decision for the award,” explains Espey. “They're looking at signage, traffic control, commercial areas, residential areas, public buildings and facilities, recreation and tourism.”

He notes they also won the Manitoba Good Roads Association’s Best Urban Home Grounds competition, with both of them looking at populations over 7,500.

Espey notes he’s glad Portage is getting the recognition it deserves following all the things that the council, along with other organizations in the city, have done to make Portage beautiful.
