A week ago today (Thursday, June 29), Portage la Prairie RCMP conducted a traffic stop. It took place at about 11:40 p.m. Police observed a vehicle with extensive damage travelling westbound on King Avenue.

Two people were in the vehicle and the 53-year-old woman driver was discovered to be impaired by alcohol and/or drug, so she was detained for further investigation.

The driver became belligerent with officers and refused to exit her vehicle. Both were arrested and upon her search, officers located a zip-lock bag containing a substance believed to be crystal meth, a small quantity of cash, and drug-related paraphernalia. A search of the vehicle led to the seizure of a machete, knife, cocaine, dried cannabis, and additional drug-related paraphernalia.

53-year-old Joanna Rennicks, of Winnipeg, was charged with:

  • Trafficking, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime,
  • Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose and
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited/Restricted Weapon x2.

She was released for court scheduled July 13, in Winnipeg.

The 29-year-old man who was in the car from Portage la Prairie was released for court scheduled September 12, in Portage, where he will face a charge of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.
