Area residents will have a chance to affect the next federal budget.

The House Finance Committee will make a stop in Portage la Prairie this fall as part of a schedule of pre-budget consultations.

The theme of the consultations is 'Canada's place in a competitive world', and Portage-Lisgar MP Brian Pallister says it's important local residents have their say on how to keep the rural area competitive.

Pallister, who Chairs the finance committee, says they hope to hear from as many Canadians as possible during two weeks of traveling across the country.

He believes the upcoming pre-budget consultation in Portage is a first for rural Manitoba.
