Winnipeg Mayor Sam Katz has promised he'll bring in a spray paint by-law if he's re-elected this month. It would ban the sale of spray paint to anyone under 18.

Portage deals with spray paint vandalism as well, and mayoral candidate Ken Brennan would consider such a measure if he's elected. However, he'd have to be certain it's worked elsewhere, and wouldn't significantly inconvenience businesses selling spray paint.

Meanwhile, candidate Earl Porter isn't convinced a by-law like that is needed here because Portage's problem isn't as big as Winnipeg's. At the same time, he recognizes it's an issue that needs to be addressed here.

Candidate Calvin Turko believes something needs to be done, but doesn't think a new by-law is the answer. He wants better enforcement of existing by-laws.
