On June 10, at around 6:00 p.m., Portage la Prairie RCMP officers were on the lookout for a stolen vehicle out of the Selkirk area, which was en route to Portage.

Officers on patrol located the stolen vehicle driving dangerously at high speeds on Highway 1 near Highway 240. For the safety of motorists, traffic was stopped by the Portage diversion and officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver refused to stop and nearly struck a RCMP vehicle. The suspect then drove through the ditch in an attempt to flee but got stuck.

Tommy Ste-Croix, 39, has been charged with: Flight from Police, Assault with a Weapon, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and Fail to Comply.

He was remanded into custody.
