A new fire truck is in the budget for Portage la Prairie this year and is slated to arrive soon.

Portage Fire Department deputy chief Brad Bailey says they're currently operating a 1991 truck, and outlines some upgrades in the newer versions.

"It's supposed to be delivered within this year," says Bailey. "The latest I've heard is that our chassis for the truck is expected in August here. The new truck is going to be quite nice. There have been a lot of changes in truck technology since the last one. A lot of it is very technical. Everything is getting computerized, so they can take care of themselves. Their sensors don't allow you to do something bad with the truck that is going to wreck things and cause maintenance problems."

Bailey notes just as with regular vehicles, they're newer and far more efficient.
