Following 34 years with the Portage la Prairie School Division (PLPSD), Debby Grey is saying goodbye to a job she took great pleasure in.

Grey started her journey at North Memorial School in the late 80s before working the last 26 years of her career at Fort la Reine School as a Speech Language Assistant.

"I loved my job," continues Grey as she expresses her passion for going to work every day. "I loved getting all the hugs from the kids. It's a very rewarding job to see the kids grow from September to June."

The educator points to being honoured with an Excellence in Education Award in 2013 as a definite highlight during her career.

"To be recognized for something that I loved doing, was very special."

On Grey's last day, the school she worked at for 26 years treated her like royalty.

"I got lots of flowers. I got a cake, and the different classrooms made me a card, which was kind of neat. I have them all sitting in my dining room. I went into every room and just said goodbye."

While Grey had her final day at work on March 23rd, she says she will be back to visit students and staff whenever she can.
