Portage la Prairie was greeted with a rude awakening from Mother Nature this week. After a beautiful fall, things have flipped on a dime since Wednesday.

Samantha Mauti, a Meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, said temperatures have plummeted across Southern Manitoba to end of this week.

"It looks like a lot of those cooler temperatures are going to stick around this weekend, with temperatures forecast below zero, basically, for the rest of the week and through the middle of next week."

Mauti added flurries are expected to end Friday evening and return early next week.

"Not too much snow in the forecast this weekend. There is a slight risk of some snow, but generally, it does not look like too much snow. However, on Monday, there's the possibility of periods of snow."

She noted that the forecast has highs of -4 for Saturday and Sunday in Portage la Prairie, which is extremely cold compared to +7 degrees, which is the average high for this time of year.

"Definitely a good idea to bundle up this weekend," laughed the Meteorologist.
