The Royal Canadian Legion in Portage la Prairie has launched its annual poppy drive leading up to Remembrance Day.

The drive starts cruising today, October 28th, and will come to a halt on November 11th.

President of the Portage Legion Branch 65 Bob Oldford, says that poppies will be available all over town in various locations.

"It's just one small way to show your appreciation to those currently serving in the military, those who have served in the past and those who have given their lives for our freedoms."

Oldford states that funds from the poppy drive go to veterans in need of assistance and a variety of Portage groups in need.

According to Oldford, last year's funds from this drive gave over $11,500 back into the community.

From Flanders Field in 1921 to Portage la Prairie in 2022, Oldford notes that he hopes to see many poppies around town during the drive, which is so vital to Branch 65 and veterans around the country.
