The Portage la Prairie School Board met last night in Portage la Prairie.

One thing discussed was next weekend's Manitoba School Boards Association Conference, which all the School Board Trustees will be attending. Board Chair Murray Murray McLenehan says there's a silent auction every year to raise money for a charity, and this year the Manitoba Riding for the Disabled Association will be the recipient.

"(Last year) We were going to have the Riding for the Disabled, but they were bumped because they couldn't get there. But this year, it's a really good cause, and our students have come through with phenomenal prizes this year. What happens at this is that the Trustees, and the Superintendents, buy tickets and it raises anywhere from 3 to 8 thousand dollars depending on the group."

McLenahan says the PLPSD is donating several items to the auction, all of which are made by students and staff.

"This is the students and the staff have worked together in their classes, and made these items. We're really proud, and really appreciative of both of them for doing this, and it's such a good cause. I know as trustees we'll be walking through and we'll see Portage School Division on each one of these, and we'll just have that little bit of extra pride."

The items being donated are some cribbage boards, a beach chair, and a couple of framed pictures from the Photography Class.
