The colder temperatures around the Portage region have affected everyone including the students and the staff in the Portage La Prairie School Division.

Superintendent Todd Cuddington explains how they are dealing with the cold weather.

"It does create some added issues for students and teachers and administrators," says Cuddington. "But generally this is Manitoba and it's not uncommon to happen. So, we just take it in stride as part of winter."

Cuddington says they're always monitoring the cold weather for the safety of students and staff. They resort to indoor recess when it reaches a certain temperature.

He explains how the children and staff are coping with the indoor recess.

"There's additional supervision responsibilities and we want to keep kids entertained," Cuddington continues. "But give kids the chance to blow off some steam during those break times."
