The Portage la Prairie Lions Club has stepped up in a big way to help out Sunset Palliative Care.

Aldene Moroz is the executive director for Sunset Palliative, and she outlines how much the Lions Club donated.

"They offered to give is $15,000 towards our programming," says Moroz. "$10,000 will go towards the hospital care room as well as $5,000 committed over three years towards our education and training program."

Moroz says that some of the money they received for the education will be able to send 26 people to the Manitoba Palliative Care Conference.

Moroz notes that money does not come in like that in donations every day.

"I always call us a small grassroots program.

"We're probably one of the smallest in the non-profit section in Portage. We work really hard, we have 35 volunteers who are so loyal to our program. We also have a board of directors that keeps on believing in what we're doing and asking us to come up with more incentives and ideas."

Moroz says she didn't know that the donation was coming and she's grateful for it.

"I was excited. I just feel we have worked so hard in the five and a half to six years since I've taken over. It just gratifies me to know that people know what we are doing."
