Guy Moffat has served as president of the Portage and District Chamber of Commerce for two years and is handing the torch to Kyle Pettinger.

Moffat says it feels exciting, believe it or not.

"I absolutely enjoyed my time as president of the Chamber of Commerce," explains Moffat. "I think that as a board we did a lot of really great things over the last two years. But one of the things that I'm looking forward to is that there is a business owner who is now the president of the Chamber of Commerce."

He notes Pettinger has plenty of energy and ideas and says he's looking forward to seeing the direction he'll take the board in the next few years.

Moffat shares the efforts during his tenure that he's most proud of.

"I would say that would be the advocacy that this board has done," continues Moffat. "This board has been very, very interested in making sure that the voice of business and the voice of our chamber members were heard with the city and the province. They really made sure that that was the number one priority."

He says they also kept with ensuring they toward the strategic plan of their organization.

"They were still working on governance, and they were still doing outstanding events in the community, and working on raising the profile of the Chamber which the membership committee has done a great job of," adds Moffat. "So, they've done a great job of working toward the strategic plans all the way through. But I think the biggest thing that this board can be proud of is the work that they've done to make sure the voice of Portage la Prairie has been heard."

Moffat says the advice that he'd give to Pettinger is to just ensure he stays torch to himself, gets all of his ideas out there, noting Pettinger's new ideas and energy will rejuvenate the board once again, nothing they weren't tired in any way, but a new direction will get everyone excited.
