The fundraising for Oakville's new community hall and daycare has been picking up steam as of late.

Karen Olafson, who works behind the scenes for the fundraiser, says as of October 7, they've raised $1,466,480.75 for the new building. She notes the current hall acts as a hub for those in the community, but it needs to be upgraded.

"It's a place to bring all of the community members together, whether it's for fall suppers or for weddings, so it's a place to gather," explains Olafson. "That's a wonderful thing to have, and to be able to have a daycare to support our families in Oakville and surrounding area would just mean a lot to the area."

She adds Oakville doesn't currently have a dedicated daycare building, instead of having to rely on people using their own homes as makeshift daycares. She says if you're interested in supporting the fundraiser, there are many ways to do so.

"We're going to be selling t-shirts and hoodies that have the map of Oakville," notes Olafson. "That's going to come out this week and we also have plans to hold a big celebration in June at the old hall. Those details will be coming out in the next month or so."

She mentions if you're looking to donate money directly, you can use it as a tax write-off. She hopes for construction on the joint hall and daycare when spring arrives.
