According to the Manitoba RCMP, crime was up this past November in our district.

The RCMP have released their crime stats for November 2023, comparing the number of service calls to November 2022. In the West District, which includes Portage la Prairie, there was a six per cent increase in calls, jumping from 3,749 to 3,957.

The largest call increase came from the Crime against Property category, climbing from 588 to 759, a 29 percent jump. Drug Enforcement calls had the largest difference, percentage-wise, rising 48 per cent, from 33 to 49.

Crime against Person calls also increased, going from 312 to 348, an increase of 12 per cent. Common Police Activity calls jumped by seven per cent, from 486 to 520.

There were three fatal motor vehicle collisions in the West District, compared to two in November 2022. There were also two serious motor vehicle collisions, a slight decrease from November of last year, where we had three.

The total number of Traffic Enforcement Tickets issued, which combines all districts, decreased by five per cent, falling from 2,512 to 2,378.
