Portage la Prairie MLA, Jeff Bereza, is weighing in on his party's decision to name MLA for Lac du Bonnet Wayne Ewasko, the head of Manitoba's Progressive Conservative Party and leader of the Official Opposition, on January 18.

Bereza tells PortageOnline that while he hasn't known Ewasko for too long, he has had nothing but pleasant experiences while getting to know him through the most recent election.

"The one thing I can say about Wayne Ewasko is that he's very methodical. He thinks before he speaks, and he really does want to do the best thing for Manitoba."

With Ewasko's background as a teacher and as a minister of education, Bereza thinks the Lac du Bonnet MLA is the right fit for the job.

"I think he's really going to hold the NDP to account. You know, they made over $3 billion in campaign promises, and I know that Wayne and the rest of us are watching that very closely for how that's going to be done."

Bereza adds that the Tories leader comes across to him as an open man who wants to get results.

"Wayne, you know, is going to be a strong leader to be able to build trust for Manitobans and keep us all working together, looking for the PCs to be forming government, hopefully, in the next 3 1/2 years."

Ewasko has been an elected MLA for Lac du Bonnet since the 2011 provincial election.
