The transformation's begun on Portage's downtown high school campus.

A portion of 4th Street between Prince Charles School and Portage Collegiate has been closed, with tree removal under way. It'll become a staff parking lot, and School Division Supervisor of Operations Tom Henry calls it a significant construction project.

The existing asphalt, as well as topsoil, will be removed. then a fresh sub-base will be installed, building up to an asphalt finish.

A student parking lot will also be built on current greenspace at PCI. An area called a plaza will allow students to walk between buildings without interfering with traffic.

Henry adds they'll spend most of the summer moving equipment and furniture to schools where it's required.
