Brandon-Souris MP Larry Maguire wants a quick solution so China resumes importing canola from Richardson International.

Maguire says the federal government needs to move more quickly.

"Canada's caught in the middle of this, and the Liberal government has allowed us to be involved," he says, "And now farmers are paying for the prime minister's mistakes, in regard to the canola issue with China, revoking Richardson's ability to export canola to China."

Maguire says the federal government is to blame for things getting to this point.

"Richardson's are our largest exporter of canola to China," he points out, "A Canadian owed company, and they're caught in the political ramifications of the situation that's evolved with China. The prime minister should be working very hard to ensure that we're not caught in it, and that farmers aren't paying for these mistakes."

Maguire says the timing isn't good for producers.

"Farmers are going to the fields in a few months," he says, "And making the decisions right now on what kind of crops they're going to grow. This could have a detrimental effect on the production of canola, never mind the loss of income from the present crop. Millions of bushels are still in the bins on the prairies, and as a result, we've got the lowest canola prices in the last three years."
