Some long awaited paving is slated to take place in Portage la Prairie this summer. Last night's city council meeting made the announcement. 

Melissa Draycott"Tonight (Monday) the City of Portage la Prairie did approve the 2018 pavement contract as specified to Messeyton Construction," says City Councillor Melissa Draycott. "That's a good news story for Portage la Prairie. We did use our new procurement policy when we were deciding on awarding this particular program. It just turned out that Messeyton Construction did make it to the top of that."

She notes there are 11 different locations to be paved, including a couple of paths.

  1. 24th Street N.W. - Sissons Drive to Park Drive
  2. 5th Avenue - Tupper St. N. to 5th Street N.W.
  3. Royal Rd. N. - Saskatchewan Ave. to Lorne Ave.
  4. Crescent Rd. E. - Royal Rd. to 3rd St. S.E.
  5. 9th Street N.W. - Saskatchewan Ave. to Lorne Ave.
  6. 20th Street N.W. - Saskatchewan Ave. to Gigot Ave.
  7. Lorne Ave. - Tupper St. N. to 4th Street N.W.
  8. Lincoln Avenue patch (Industrial Park Access) boundary road
  9. McDonald St. - Lincoln Ave. to Peony Bay N., boundary Road
  10. Meighen Ave. Path - Bridge Rd. to River Rd.
  11. River Rd. Path - Meighen Ave. to Arthur Meighen School

Draycott says the operations department looks at the worst roads in the city and determines what they can do with the money set aside for these projects.
