The Manitoba Junior Hockey League recently held its AGM and from that it was decided there would be some rule changes for the upcoming season.

Portage Terriers Governor, Trent Ward, explains that the new rules will be similar to those of the NHL; cracking down on hooking, holding, obstruction and stick work. He adds the motion for change came about at the Hockey Canada Annual General meeting and many leagues have already adopted the new system including the OHL and Quebec Major Hockey League and there's plans to have the rules pushed all the way down to minor hockey.

He adds that the training for Master Course Conductors, referees, coaches and fan education will be taking place within a few weeks from use of NHL tapes.

Ward notes that the first year will be an adjustment period but in the long run he feels the new rules will be beneficial for the game; promoting finesse and speed.
