On May 6, the Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) responded to a report of an assault with a weapon where a firearm was discharged on Townsite Bay in Sandy Bay First Nation.

Members of the MFNPS attended the scene and located a young man with injuries. It was reported that he had been assaulted and two suspects fled on an ATV while firing shots.

On May 10, Police obtained a search warrant for a residence on in Townsite Bay. Members of the MFNPS, with assistance from the RCMP Emergency Response Team, safely executed the search warrant. In the residence, police located a firearm, ammunition and other weapons that were seized as part of the investigation.

A young boy accused of the assault was located and arrested. He has been charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Carless use of a firearm

He was released from custody on an undertaking to go to court at a future date. He cannot be identified as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

An adult man was also located in the residence and arrested on outstanding warrants and is now facing further charges related to the firearm.
