With the disappearance of the snow could come the appearance of some discarded hazardous materials. Used needles can be particularly dangerous. City Councillor Ryan Espey talks about it.

"It's unfortunate but those things are around," says Espey. "I would say that if anyone finds anything that looks suspicious or they don't think should be there, the way to deal with it is to call the local authorities. Call the RCMP and talk to them about it. I would urge people against trying to remove it or dispose of it themselves. You never know what you're picking up, and those things could be dangerous."

Espey also spoke about disposal of the items before they end up outside.

"There are sharps containers in various locations and there are some in Stride Place," adds Espey. "That's where people should be disposing of something like that. However, if it's not one that you have used I would advise against even touching it."
