Portage la Prairie's MCC Thrift Store held their fundraising day for Youth for Christ: Youth Unlimited (YFC) on Wednesday, May 28.

The day saw $4,000 raised and donated to the local YFC chapter. General Manager of Portage MCC, Kevin Hamm, shares why they feel the work of YFC is important in our community.

"We've had a lot of youth volunteers in through our store, and many of them have been impacted by YFC, and many of us, who grew up in the community, grew up knowing about the work of YFC and how important they are to kids and families," Hamm notes. "We've been blessed to be able to partner with them, not just on fundraising days like this, but also to work together when there's a need that's been identified. If YFC has encountered a family or individuals that are in need, and they come to us and say, 'Hey, these guys need a hand up to get back on their feet,' we've been able to help them. We really appreciate that Art (Schroeder) and his crew have such deep inroads in the community and have these connections and are listening and hearing and helping the people who are in need."

Art Schroeder, YFC's Executive Director in Portage, says the money comes at an ideal time for the organization.

"It's going to go a long way in helping with our summer programming. We're just embarking on getting ready for our summer program, which ramps up a lot. So, we're going to be doing a lot of programming with that this summer. So, we're really excited about where that goes, because we have to raise a lot of money, and all the programs we run are free of charge. This helps us maintain that status."

Schroeder also adds that the organization is grateful for the work of MCC.

"We're so thankful for this organization and what they do in our community, and not just our community, but around the world. MCC has a huge impact globally on the lives of families that are in need. So, the fact that they are able to help us, as well, to help families that are in need, is a huge blessing for us. We're so thankful to be able to be a part of their generosity with helping not-for-profits continue to have an impact in our community."
