Many have tried, but very few make it a reality; golf's Hail Mary pass, the hole in one.

This past Wednesday a local man was skilled/fortunate enough to convert a hole in one at the Portage Golf Club. However, this wasn't the first time Zane Matiation has done what most regard as impossible, in fact this marks the third occassion he's been able to celebrate a hole in one. He scored his first hole in one in 1972 on what was hole 7, now 10, on the Portage Golf Course, his second ace came last year during the annual Portage RCMP golf tournament and because the hole was sponsored, he won a trip anywhere Air Canada travels in North America. Matiation describes Wednesday's hole in one shot as firm, striking the ball with his 5 wood on hole 2.

After putting the ball in the hole in one shot on 3 seperate occasions, Matiation still isn't exactly sure how he does it, and the advice he gives is simply, just hit the ball. He told friends jokingly the first one was luck but his last two have been the result of skill.

Matiation has been golfing since 1964, and doesn't have any plans to stop in the near future. As for his free trip, he says he's just confirmed the arrangements and a trip to Disney World in Florida is planned.
