Manitoba has announced another death related to COVID-19.

Chief Public Health Officer, Dr. Brent Roussin says a Winnipeg man in his 70s with an underlying health condition is the fourth person to die from complications related to the virus.

As of this morning, six new cases were confirmed, bringing Manitoba's total lab-confirmed positive and probable positive cases to 230. Ten people are in hospital with COVID-19, 5 of those patients are in ICU.

Of Manitoba's 230 total cases, Roussin says 92 people have recovered and 134 cases remain active.

Dr. Roussin again cautions Manitobans that although the province's numbers over the past few days may be showing that our efforts are working, we can't interpret them as a lowering of our current risk.

"Now is not the time for us to loosen up our activities. We need to continue to focus on social distancing and all of our strategies going forward. Although we don't want to see our numbers increase, it would be a mistake to interpret this as lowering our risk right now in Manitoba."

This weekend and these next few weeks are critical in Manitoba's response to this pandemic, added Roussin.

"You don't have to look far to see the impacts of this virus around us. You can look to our neighbours in the south, and even many jurisdictions in Canada right now seeing case numbers climb and as well, unfortunately, deaths."

Dr. Roussin adds it's vital that all travellers returning to Manitoba need to self isolate for fourteen days upon their return to Manitoba as the majority of our cases continue to be connected to travel.
