Manitoba Hydro is looking to consult with area residents about an upcoming project.

Changes are needed to the Brandon–Portage la Prairie BP6/BP7 power line as development beside the line has grown, and requirements for right-of-way widths have increased since the line was built. But now, a new route is required. Media officer Bruce Owen says it's also due to an infamous weather event that struck the region.

"We all remember the October 2019 storm and the damage it did to our system in the Portage and Interlake areas. What we need to do is rebuild," says Owen. "We essentially are still rebuilding pieces for that system, particularly the line that runs from the Portage area into the transmission line that runs to Brandon."

People in the area can participate in the virtual information sessions on March 16th and 17th. There's also an online survey available you can complete by March 18th. Owen says they're looking for input on some route selections.
