Statistics Canada's latest Consumer Price Index reported that Manitoba has once again attained the lowest inflation rate in Canada.

This is the sixth consecutive month the province has achieved this feat. Adrien Sala, Manitoba's Finance Minister, stated that this is all part of the NDP government's plan.

"Our government's efforts to reduce costs have proven successful," he continued. "The gas tax holiday has effectively increased disposable income and contributed to Manitoba's lower inflation rate."

Sala further highlighted the government's commitment to easing financial stress on residents, particularly in light of high interest rates, by implementing measures to curb expenses on essential needs such as mortgage payments and groceries.

According to the report, Manitoba's consumer inflation stood at 1.4 per cent in June, significantly below the national average of 2.7 per cent. The province outperformed the country in various goods and services, including rent, gasoline, phone services, furniture, recreational equipment, and clothing. Furthermore, Manitoba maintained the lowest gas prices in the country, with an average retail price of 142.9 cents for gasoline in Portage la Prairie at the moment, notably lower than the price of 163.3 cents recorded in August 2023.
