On Friday, February 9, at about 3:30 p.m., Portage la Prairie RCMP officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on 9th Street NW.

An officer approached the vehicle and recognized the driver, a 30-year-old man from Portage, driving with a suspended driver’s license.

The 30-year-old man was arrested and upon a search, officers located a cell phone and cash. A search of the vehicle located a small quantity of a drug suspected to be methamphetamine, another cell phone and unstamped cigarettes.

A search warrant was drafted and executed at a residence, located on 9th Street NW in Portage la Prairie, where officers located an additional quantity of a drug suspected to be methamphetamine, multiple cell phones, unstamped cigarettes, knives, firearms, ammunition and other drug-related paraphernalia.

RCMP have charged 30-year-old Tyler Rutherford with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and numerous firearm-related offences. He was remanded into custody for a court appearance scheduled for Monday, February 12, in Portage la Prairie.
