A Costa Rican boy goes through a shoebox full of gifts he received through Operation Christmas Child.

Have you packed a shoebox full of gifts for a little boy or girl yet? Collection wraps up Sunday in Portage la Prairie. You can deliver your filled shoeboxes to four different locations this year: the main storefront in the Portage Mall, Solomon's Home Garden Gift, Prairie Alliance Church and Portage Evangelical Church.

Your shoebox will travel around the world. This year, shoeboxes from our area will be sent to Haiti, Nepal, Guinea Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone and Equatorial Guinea. You can also send a shoebox to Ukraine by printing off a special blue label here.

Samaritan's Purse put together a list of the Top 100 Shoebox Items. This list includes personal hygiene items such as baby powder, a brush and nail clippers to school supplies such as notepads, markers, chalk and even sewing kits. Don't forget the toys! You can toss in a soccer ball, skipping rope, silly putty, slinky or stickers. The options are endless! The most important item to include in the shoebox? A picture and note from the sender!

A Portage OCC volunteer unloads a delivery of shoeboxes at the Collection Centre in the mall last year. This year’s shoebox goal is more than 2,600.
