2016 looks like it'll be busy for Southport Aerospace Centre, especially in the spring. That's from CEO Peggy May, who outlines some of what's on their agenda, starting with the opening of the Central Plains Rec Plex in April.

"We expect that'll happen in the spring, with the opening of the new day care as well. We also have a student competition, the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Competition at the end of April. The military's going to be hosting a ball out at Southport in one of the hangars in April as well. And I know that the Manitoba Chamber of Commerce is hosting the annual general meeting here in Portage in May, and Southport will host the opening gala event."

May says an ongoing project is to re-establish an aircraft interpretive park this year.

"We'd like to get some aircraft back -- some of the historical aircraft that the military have returned to work on them, to repair them -- but we're happy to take any that have been part of the history of Southport. We could also work with independent people, too, I think, to find aircraft that are in existence somewhere that maybe need a new home, so we're going to work with 17 Wing (in Winnipeg)."
