Three local students were recognized by The Royal Conservatory of Music in Winnipeg recently. Emilee Martel of Portage la Prairie explains what the recognition was for.

"I did a grade 6 violin exam in the summer and I got a 91. That was the highest mark for the province of that level for violin so I got to get a gold award."

She explains being recognized for her music is always exciting.

"It's pretty amazing. I've done some exams before this and I think out of the five I have done, I've actually won gold for four of them."

Randi Roy of Portage la Prairie and Madison Beuckert of MacGregor also brought home gold for their voice and piano exams, respectively. Roy explains it's great to be honoured amonga province of talented musicians.

"I feel honoured. Not a lot of people get that and it's just more encouraging to work harder. A lot of kids dedicate their lives to this and this is all that they do is music. The competition is pretty high especially in Winnipeg.
