Four local non-profit heritage organizations are benefiting from more than $245,000 from the first round of funding through the Province's 2021 Heritage Grant Program. The funding was split between seven jurisdictions in the province, with $25,924 being allotted to the Central region.

Not-for-profit community organizations that offer unique and educational programming and services for all ages can apply for up to 50 per cent of their project’s total expenses.

Below is a list of local grant recipients:

  • Boundary Trail Heritage Region Inc.
    • $3,500 to write articles for a local history project
    • $5,000 to share expertise regarding artifact display and protection, digitization of materials and publication efforts, and continue to develop regional connections
  • Central Manitoba Tourism Inc.
    • $8,112 to develop heritage tourism content creation and marketing
  • Miami Railway Station Museum Association Inc.
    • $2,312 to develop exhibits for the museum waiting room and caboose
  • RM of Montcalm
    • $7,000 to develop and produce interpretive panels

The funds awarded to Central Manitoba Tourism will help them to create online content focused on museums in the Central Plains, including Portage's Fort la Reine Museum.

“We are pleased to support so many incredible local and grassroots organizations and communities to carry out projects that focus on bringing our province’s history to life in creative and engaging ways,” said Sport, Culture and Heritage Minister Cathy Cox in a provincial news release. “These projects help to preserve and promote the experiences and stories that have formed Manitoba into what it is today. I am proud that our government’s investment and continued community involvement make these important heritage projects possible and accessible.”
