Saturday night was a successful one for the Portage Lions Club. They held their annual auction and raised about $18,000, which they'll be putting back into the community.

Anita Hart is President of the Club and characterizes the night.

"It was really good," says Hart. "It was well received, lots of laughter. Tim and Dave Rodgers came out and were the auctioneers, so they'd switch off. Of course, their personalities are their personalities. They always bring lots of laughs. There was a young man who helped with some of the auctioneering as well. He was enjoying it quite a bit up there."

The boy was about 7 years old, and took to the stage to help move the auction along.

Hart notes there were 79 items for sale in the auction itself, and another 12 prize packages for the silent auction. The money raised will go to organizations in the Portage area such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Child and Family Services.

She notes if you have an organization that needs a boost, send them a letter telling them why, and there's a good chance they'll donate to you.
