The Municipality of North Norfolk's looking into upgrading the Austin lagoon.

Mayor Neil Christoffersen says it's in response to a report on the expansion of the town and the usage of the lagoon that indicates the improvements are necessary.

He points out the process is just under way.

"How much land do we need, and where does it have to be located. We can't do that on our own, so we've communicated with the Manitoba Water Services Board, and they've indicated that they can help us with the study, with an engineering group, to make those determinations, and also to help us with the environmental licencing process, that is required."

Christoffersen stresses nothing's going to happen for a few years, and he can't speculate on costs for the Municipality.

"I'll say that it won't be inexpensive to do it, but to give a ball park (estimate), I wouldn't even want to hazard a guess. But as far as the impact goes, there's a separate utility budget for Austin and district, so the user will be paying for that, so we just have to set up a formula."
