La Verendrye School's grade 7/8 boys volleyball team were crowned division champions last week. They overcame Ecole Arthur Meighen in the championship game. Head coach Mitchell Nelissen describes what areas the team excelled in.

"Our serving and our serve returning," says Nelissen. "We didn't want any of those balls hitting the floor. They all played really well."

This championship didn't come without adversity, Nelissen explains what got the boys back on track.

"We had a tournament in MacGregor where we lost every single game," says Nelissen. "That was a big turning point. They just needed a wake-up call and I think that was what turned it around from there."

Nelissen notes the team will look quite different next year as they will be losing seven players who are moving on to high school next year. With that being said, he feels the 3-4 players that will be returning for another year will make great leaders for the newcomers to the team.
