La Verendrye School in Portage la Prairie is seeing its middle years season for basketball wrap up, and they're looking forward to playoffs next week.

Boys basketball coach Mitchell Nelissen says the girls are currently undefeated. He notes they went 6-0 this year and the boys team are at 3-2.

"We're looking forward to playoffs, so our girls get the first-round bye, and our boys will have to play in the quarterfinals and then after basketball, we start up with badminton," says Nelissen. "Our boys are really working toward moving the ball to everybody on the courts and working as a team."

He adds School division superintendent Todd Cuddington set up their Portage la Prairie Middle Schools Tournament this year, and it turned out great.

The boys went undefeated, but there was no championship bracket for them.
