Portage came through again for the Salvation Army this morning.

Between 300 and 400 people were part of the Jingle Bell Breakfast at the Glesby Centre, in support of the Salvation Army Food Bank.

Captain BJ Loder calls what was brought in significant in their effort to ensure there's enough to fill about 300 hampers this year. He adds the Jingle Bell Breakfast serves as the official start of their Christmas food drive.

Loder's grateful for the community's support, but points out they still need a lot more to satisfy the demand.

This is the sixth Jingle Bell Breakfast, and organizer Gerry Little feels it's the biggest ever. She's also grateful to Portagers for getting behind the idea, adding many use it as a springboard into the festive season.
